Faculty of Theology

St. Basilios Theological College, located in Dibre Berhan, Ethiopia, was established in 2013 to provide theological education for Clergy, Deacons, and Laymen of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). The Faculty of Theology offers a range of courses designed to meet the needs of individuals seeking a deeper understanding of Orthodox theology and faith, as well as those aspiring to serve in various capacities within the Church, whether on a part-time or full-time basis. The regular program requires five years of study (ten semesters), while the extension program spans six years (eleven semesters). The program comprises 176 credit hours (289 ECTS), culminating in the award of a Bachelor of Theology (የነገረ መለኮት ባችለር ዲግሪ) upon successful completion.

Objectives

  1. Educate Qualified Ministers: To train clergy and laypeople capable of effectively teaching the faith, traditions, history, and system of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
  2. Spread Worship and Faith: To produce church leaders and theologians who can promote the worship of God and edify the Ethiopian people through priestly service, faith leadership, and gospel teaching.
  3. Provide Professional Training: To offer foundational and advanced training for serving priests and church administrative staff.
  4. Protect the Community: To equip graduates to address contemporary societal challenges and safeguard the faithful from erroneous teachings.
  5. Promote Orthodox Teachings: To ensure that the faithful learn from approved religious texts of the Orthodox Tewahedo Church and are protected from divisive or incorrect doctrines.
